Donald "Don" J. Gust, age 82, a 50-year resident of Woodridge, IL, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025 at Prairie Pointe Assisted Living in Sugar Grove, IL. Born on November 17, 1942 in Oak Park, IL, Don was the beloved son of William and Eleanor Gust.
Don is survived by his loving children, Jennifer "Jenny" (Arthur) Rocchi-Cornuelle and Paul Gust; his cherished granddaughter, Sara Rocchi; his brother, William "Bill" (Marsha) Gust; his brother-in-law, Donald "Don" (the late Geri) Kuech. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sharon Gust in 2015, and his son-in-law, Christopher Rocchi in 2014.
Don was a graduate of Proviso West High School and honorably served in the United States Army. He enjoyed a 25-year career as an apparatus repairman at Eastman Kodak Co., Oak Brook, followed by a 25-year career at Kohl's Department Store in Woodridge, where his warm personality made him a favorite among coworkers and customers alike.
Don's life was anchored in faith and community. A longtime member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Woodridge, he found joy in singing with the church choir and connecting with fellow parishioners. He was an avid supporter of the Chicago Bears and Cubs, and his enthusiasm for sports was matched only by his love of conversation and humor. Don had a gift for making people laugh and feel welcome – he was a true "people person."
In his later years, Don thrived at Prairie Pointe Assisted Living, where he enjoyed outings, activities, and the companionship of new friends. His family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care he received during this time.
