John William Blake, age 65, a resident of Naperville, IL, passed away unexpectedly on October 1, 2025 at his home. He was born on May 8, 1960 in Minneapolis, MN.

John is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 40 years, Natalie; his sister, Ann (David) Blake Demny and brother, Jim Blake; his sister-in-law Robin Gruia, his father and step-mother in-law, Adrian and Maryann Gruia, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Quentin and Mary Blake, his mother-in-law Alice Gruia, and his brother, Joe (Jil) Blake.

John earned his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Houston, and his doctorate degree in chemical engineering from the University of Minnesota. He began his career with Amoco in 1987 and retired in 2000.

John was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He generously gave his time and talents to many people and organizations, embodying a spirit of service and compassion. In his free time, John found joy in gardening, where he nurtured beauty, life, and lots of tasty vegetables, and in playing golf, a pastime he approached with both enthusiasm and camaraderie. He also very much enjoyed spending time with family and friends and travelling with Natalie.
