Donna Marie (Schrag) Wedel, 87, of South Hutchinson, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 15, 2025, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born October 21, 1937, in Hutchinson, to Herman H. and Viola (Graber) Schrag.
Donna was raised in Pretty Prairie and graduated from Pretty Prairie High School in 1955. Following a high school courtship, she married the love of her life, Harland Wayne Wedel, on October 27, 1955, in Pretty Prairie. They were blessed with almost 62 years of marriage.
In 1957, Donna graduated from Wichita Business College. She worked for Kansas Farmers Service Association as an administrative assistant and as a medical claims processor for the Hutchinson Clinic. Donna helped her husband Harland with their custom harvesting business and farming operations. They cherished their time spent traveling and camping together with family and friends. In her leisure time, Donna enjoyed gardening, sewing and collecting Hummels.
An accomplished pianist and organist, she began playing for church services in the 8th grade and continued to play every week at church for over 50 years. In addition, Donna played for weddings, funerals and accompanied soloists, and the church choir. She was a member of the Hutchinson Organ Guild and First Mennonite Church, Hutchinson.
Donna's beautiful smile, positive attitude and persevering faith during both the peaks and valleys in her life were an inspiration to anyone who met her. Family and friends were blessed with her deep unconditional love.
Donna is survived by: daughter, Diane Siemens (Kent) of Lenexa; daughter-in-law, Karen McKown-Wedel of Arkansas; four grandchildren, Lindsey Iles (Blake), Cassie Hawkins (Jarreau), all of Olathe, Preston Wedel of Island Park, ID, and Makenzie Wedel of Kansas City, MO; five great-grandchildren, Camden and Braden Iles, Emery and Aven Hawkins, all of Olathe and Sannto DeMint of Kansas City, MO; and sisters, Florene Krehbiel of Pretty Prairie and Leann Toews (Jerry) of Goessel.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Harland; and son, Monte Wedel.
Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 20, 2025, at First Mennonite Church, 52 Rambler Road, Hutchinson, with Pastor Tonya Ramer Wenger officiating. Private family inurnment will be in the church columbarium. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to First Mennonite Church, Hutchinson or Hospice House, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
