Donnie Frances Cresap

Donnie Frances Cresap (Deering), age 83, passed away on April 15, 2023. A rosary will be held on Wednesday April 26, 2023, at 9:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 921 Merriwether St., Clovis, NM. A Memorial Mass is to follow at 9:30 am with Father Franklyn Iwuagwu officiating.
Donnie was born November 15, 1939, to the home of John Emery and Callie Ellen Grimes Deering in Roswell, New Mexico. She was raised on the family ranch 18 miles west of Kenna, attended school at home then at Circle Y School, a one room school taught first by her cousin Jo Juana Vaughan (Skipworth), and later by her mother until the school closed. The family moved to Portales where she attended Junior high, then moving back to the ranch, she attended Elida High School and graduated as Valedictorian in 1957. That year she attended college at UNM in Albuquerque. After a year at UNM, she returned to Portales to attend ENMU where she graduated with a degree in Education and later her Masters in Spanish in 1961. She taught in Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado and worked as a counselor at a ranch camp in Arizona where she coached an equestrian team that performed at local parades and rodeos. She later worked for the New Mexico Employment Security Commission in Gallup before transferring to Clovis where she met her future husband. They married in 1971 and settled in the area where they raised Appaloosa horses which later gave way to her return to teaching until her health failed. She started doing crafts and painting, was an avid poet and kept books for the family business ventures until her retirement.
She is survived by her husband David of 52 years and her son Danny, both of Portales, NM, two grandsons; Asher (wife Angel) of Plano, TX, and Max of Denver, CO, one great grandson; Ezekiel and two great granddaughters; Beatrice and Felicity, two sisters; Cora Stroud of Portales, NM, and Linda Brown of Garland, TX, numerous nieces and nephews and her two "adopted" daughters in law; Gina Rega of Dallas, TX, and Leslie Sly of Denver, CO. She is preceded in death by her parents.
The family would like to thank the caring staff of Kindred home-hospice for the loving care they provided her and the family in her final days.
