Donnie E. Petty, 76, Marion, passed away at 3:31 pm on Sunday, December 24, 2023, at Marion Health. He was born in Mountain View, Arkansas, on Thursday, January 2, 1947, to Johnnie and Carmen (Lewis) Petty. On December 28, 1968, he married Brenda Gamble, and she survives.
Donnie graduated from Mississinewa High School and joined the United States Army where he served from 1965-1968. After his service, he worked at the Marion VA Healthcare System. Don was an athlete in high school and loved sports, especially golf. He belonged to the Arbor Trace and the Elks Club Golf Course where he had a Hole-in-One. He was also in bowling leagues at the VA. Besides his work at the VA, he was also a mason and went to auctioneering school. He was also a lifelong member of the American Legion.
Along with his wife, survivors also include Don's children, Rachelle (Dan) Shrout of Marion, Johnnie Petty of Marion; sisters, Dayna Talbott, and Tonya Petty; brothers-in-law, Dan (Joan) Gamble, Rodney Gamble; grandchildren Spencer Shrout, Isaac (Deanna) Shrout; great-grandchildren, Shea Shrout, Isabelle Shrout; sister-in-law, Patty Shaw; best friend, Billy Miles; his cats, Sassy and Alvin; and dogs, Bo Bo and Sophie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Carmen Petty, and in-laws, Howard (Helen) Gamble.
Donnie will be cremated and his remains will be inurned at a later date at the Marion National Cemetery.
