Doreen Velda Greenan

Doreen Velda Greenan, known affectionately as Velda, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025, in New Haven, Connecticut. Born on November 3, 1936, in Essex, England, Velda was a beacon of love and creativity throughout her 88 years.
Velda was the cherished daughter of the late James and Doris (Smith) Plumb. She was a loving sister to Trevor Plumb (Val) and the late Shirley Hogben. She in predeceased by her late husband Richard. Velda's legacy of love continues through her beloved children, Mark Greenan, Virginia Peace (Mitch), Tina Greenan, Wayne Greenan (Chika), and Sandra Brugger (David). Her grandchildren, Rachel, Richard, Robin, Chelsea, Morgan, Brian, Kerry, Richard, and Jack, along with ten great-grandchildren, will forever hold her in their hearts.
After completing her high school education, Velda's passion for fashion and design led her to become a talented seamstress. She turned her skills into a successful career by founding Velda Fashion Design in Bedford Village, New York. Her creative spirit shone brightly, even catching the eye of Hollywood celebrities in town. She also became popular at many craft shows and was sought out by many for her talents.
Family was the cornerstone of Velda's life, and her grandchildren were her greatest joy. She was an amazing knitter, often joking that she could knit in her sleep. Her love for the thrill of casinos was only matched by her dedication to her craft.
Velda was a woman of kindness, creativity, and love. Her hands were rarely still, as she was always creating something beautiful for those around her. As the well known quote by Maya Angelou goes, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Velda made everyone around her feel cherished and valued.
Her memory will be a guiding light to all who knew her, a testament to a life lived with love and a creative spirit that never faded. Velda will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A Memorial Gathering will be held November 2, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. to celebrate Velda's life at Cargain Funeral Home, 418 Route 6 (GPS US-6), Mahopac, NY.
During the Memorial Gathering, a prayer service and blessing will take place to honor Velda's life at 1:00 p.m.
A private cremation has taken place.
