Doug attended Arts High School located in Newark, NJ, then later attended Keyport High School where he received his High School Diploma. He furthered his education by attending college at Montclair State University located in Montclair, NJ. Not long after, Doug pursued his Commercial Driver's License doing what he loved, DRIVING; from 18 wheelers to school buses you name it, he drove it. Before Doug became ill, he was employed as a Driver at the Newark Sanitation Department.
Doug loved playing basketball where he got the nickname "Angel Feet". He also loved instruments and music, in particular the trumpet. He was a part of a band where they frequently performed live at The Playhouse located in Newark. Before falling ill, Doug would frequently play his trumpet at Chosen Generation Ministry church every Sunday in support of his Pastor Darrin Monroe. Doug always loved to be invited to family gatherings; where there was food, Doug was there. Doug was an amazing family man that loved everyone, "Pop Pop" as his grandkid would call him, whom he also spoiled dearly.
Doug was preceded in death by his daughter, Tiffany Mellers, and his youngest son's mother, Glenda Hicks. Doug is survived by his wife, Tina Gollett; his 3 sons, Douglas Gollett Jr., Desmond Gollett and Thomas Gollett; his sister, Jeneva Miller; close and longtime friend, Carol Andrews; his grandchildren, Crystal and Jaysa Mellers, Taneesha and Shaliel Gollett, Nyomi and Josiah Hutchinson; his extended children, Letiesha and Shamar Jones, Sabainah and Funmilayo Ademoji and Semaj Andrews; along with a host of friends and family.
