Duane "Dewey" Franklin Hafermann, a beloved husband, father, brother, and cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2024, at the age of 68, due to complications from cancer.
A visitation will be held at Ritchay Funeral Home on Sunday, October 6th, from 3pm-7pm. An additional visitation will be held on Monday, October 7th from 10am to 12pm, followed by a brief service.
Dewey was born on July 11, 1956, and lived a life full of joy, love, and adventure. He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Cheri (Flugaur), and their three children, Emily (Sean), Tyler, and Austin, who were the pride of his life. He will be deeply missed by his brothers Paul (Jenny), Rick, and Chad (Julie), his sister Twyla, and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary (Terry) Flugaur, John Flugaur, David (Lisa) Flugaur, and Cindi Flugaur. Dewey is reunited in eternal peace with his sister, Lori, his parents Vera and Dick, his in-laws Harold and Ilene, his nieces Mikhaila and Kiley, and his brothers-in-law Michael and Jim. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws, who will remember him with fondness and love.
A proud graduate of Lincoln High School and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Dewey went on to become a successful entrepreneur. For 40 years, he owned and operated Homestead Golf Course and Bar, a business he purchased from his father. Under Dewey's leadership, Homestead became more than just a business-it was a gathering place and cornerstone of the community, where friendships flourished, and memories were made. Dewey always said he had the best job in the world: he got to serve beer to his friends, and they paid him for it!
Dewey was known for his generosity, frequently supporting local charities and schools, ensuring that his success also benefited those around him. His fun-loving, witty, and outgoing nature made him a friend to many, and he always made it a point to greet everyone by name and keep up on any happenings in their lives, great or small. He had a genuine love and care for others, and his loss will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
An avid lover of nature, Dewey found peace and happiness in the outdoors. He had many fond memories of spending time hunting with his father, uncles, cousins, and friends, and he took great joy in taking each of his three children on their first hunts. He never lost his wonder for the natural world, enjoying even quiet evenings watching the deer walk through his backyard, or admiring the mountains and oceans on trips with his wife. He also enjoyed spending time vacationing in the Caribbean with his large group of friends and family.
Dewey's legacy is one of kindness, community, and love for life. He touched the lives of many and will be remembered with warmth and gratitude.
Dewey's family would like to thank Aspirus Hospice services for their exceptional care and compassion, especially Spencer and CNA Rose.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in Dewey's memory.
May he rest in peace.

Dewey- always greeted me with kindness whether I was running around Homestead with Twyla or later when visiting from Texas. His passing is a great loss for the community but what a celebration there will be in heaven with siblings, parents, cousins, aunts and uncles etc.... I wish I could be there to celebrate his life with you!
