Allan Atmore, a lifelong resident of Santa Paula, California passed away on January 7, 2025, at
the age of 90. Allan was born in Ventura on August 8, 1934, to Edward and Lucille Atmore. He
is survived by his wife Jyl, sons Tom and his wife Dana, Douglas and his wife Katherine, six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Jane Atmore-Mead.
Allan attended Briggs School and Santa Paula High School, graduating in 1952. He then went
to study at UC Berkeley and UCLA, earning a degree in Agricultural Economics from UC
Berkeley. He also served two years in the US Navy.
Allan was a fourth generation Santa Paulan whose forebears came to California during the Gold
Rush that later settled in Santa Paula and began a citrus ranching operation that spanned
multiple generations. During his career, he founded a citrus tree nursery business, operated
citrus and avocado ranches, and developed a residential subdivision.
Allan enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, swimming, camping, gardening, listening to classical music,
and traveling. He was an accomplished backpacker and loved the beauty of the 'high country'
in the Sierra Nevada.
He enjoyed involvement and supporting community organizations including the Universalist
Unitarian Church, Santa Paula Art Museum, Blanchard Community Library, and the Ventura
County Museum.
Allan enjoyed sharing time with family, friends and especially his grandchildren at 'the beach' in
Ventura.
A memorial service will be held at the Universalist Unitarian Church at 740 E. Main Street in
Santa Paula on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests
donations be made to the Blanchard Community Library Endowment Fund or a charity of
choice.
