Earl E. Greiss, 83, formerly of Mertztown, PA, passed away on Thursday evening, August 28, 2025 in Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest, Allentown, PA. He was the loving husband of the late Lorraine M. (Seaman) Greiss, who died on December 8, 2023 and whom he married on July 15, 1972.
Born in Longswamp Township, Earl was the youngest son of the late William E. and Pearl N. (Kemp) Greiss. Earl was a farmer by trade and maintained his family dairy and crop farm in Henningsville, PA until 1984. He was then employed as a heavy equipment operator at East Penn Manufacturing Co., Inc., Lyons Station, from 1984 until his retirement in 2005.
Earl was a lifetime member and assistant steward of Kutztown Grange No. 1836, where he also served on the finance and executive committees. He was also a member of the Pikeville Sportsmen's Association, lifetime member of Rockland Rod & Gun Club, and member of Huff's Union Church, Alburtis, PA. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He enjoyed Native American history, classic cowboy and war movies, sharing farm stories, singing Eddie Arnold songs and wearing his signature cowboy hat especially while driving his truck or riding his tractor (back in the day). Above all, he adored his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Earl is survived by his daughter, Dr. Mary P. Greiss-Coult, Coopersburg; step-children, Nancy L. (Roth) Sattazahn, wife of Nick Sattazahn, Hamburg, JoAnn L.(Roth) Behney, wife of Robert Behney, Trexlertown, and Robert P. Roth and his companion, Joann Miller, Ephrata; five grandchildren, Benjamin Coult, Nathanael Coult, John Coult, Joshua Sattazahn and Kaitlyn (Behney) Dolich; and four great grandchildren, Kylie, Brayden, and Adalyn Dolich and Aubree Sattazahn.
Along with his wife and parents, Earl was predeceased by a grandson Jonathan N. Sattazahn on October 18, 2007; and siblings Ernest Greiss, Melvin Greiss, Frances (Greiss) Leibensperger, Ruth (Greiss) Leibensperger and step-brothers, David Greiss, Warren Greiss and John Greis.
A funeral service to celebrate and honor Earl's life will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., 25 East Weis Street, Topton, with The Reverend Nelson Quiñones, Chaplain of EverTrue Lutheran Home at Topton, officiating . Burial will follow in Longswamp Union Cemetery, Mertztown. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
