Edward Dickinson, 78, peacefully passed on June 18, 2025, at his family home in Roxbury, VT. Born in Waukegan, IL on May 17, 1947; son of Lawrence and Florence (Voss) Dickinson. The family moved two years later back to VT. During the summer, he played with his cousins and friends, mowed lawns, and worked at Nantanna and Teela-Wooket until he graduated from Northfield High School, enjoying a 50th reunion.
Ed joined the Seabees from 1965 to 1967 and served 2 tours in Vietnam as part of the US Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 58 in the construction electrician shop third class.
Ed was a life member of the VFW. He enjoyed gathering with the American Legion patrons of Post 63 in Northfield for breakfast or supper. With Legion Riders at Montpelier Post 1. The Legion Riders of Post 10 in Barre kept him busy as Historian. He drove many miles on his 1986 Honda Goldwing... later a 2003 Honda Goldwing bike, and finally the 2003 Honda Goldwing trike. Ed enjoyed charity runs such as Blessing of the Bikes in Colebrook, NH, for many years, the Toy Run to Montpelier, and the Last Mile for Gifford Hospital, with plenty of fun runs to Derby Cow Palace, the A&W in Middlebury, Route 104 Diner in NH, etc.
Ed was a member of St John's Church of Northfield and the Roxbury UCC. He maintained the church bell for years and did other odd jobs for them as needed. He also participated in the food shelf project.
Ed worked for Bombardier on the trains they built in Canada and NY., testing electrical components and circuits on the various trains.
He did service work on many oil furnaces and plowed many a Vermont State road. He also worked at Vermont Castings. Ed spent many years at Sugarbush on Mt Ellen doing maintenance on the grooming machines and other equipment...working with some fine fellas....Steve....Josh and so many others that he would mention, and was keeping in contact with.
Being an avid railroad enthusiast, he collected O scale, fixing all scales, building his own tracks, and dioramas. A huge collection can be found in NH.
Ed loved serving the community as his Dad had. His Mom worked at the Post Office. He enjoyed participating in the Senior Citizens Community lunches and helping with the Soup and Pie Socials that Claire spearheaded at the UCC church to raise money for repairs.
Molson, Missy, and Jasmine of four-footed fame accompanied him on the many miles of back roads he loved to roam.
Ed has shared his last 12 and 1/2 years with Jeanette, enjoying roadside views and lunches as she photographed everything she could from the backseat of those Gold Wings passing through many states. While in Wisconsin to visit her family, she agreed to wear his ring. They traveled farther west to celebrate using the RV and the bike they towed.
Jeanette's family in ME accepted him as "Grandpa," which thrilled his heart. He is survived by cousin John McCaffrey and family in FL, Brother-in-law Skip and family. He leaves his former wife Carol, a daughter Wendy, and a son Ron, both of whom he often spoke of.
And of course, there are so many friends and acquaintances he talked about. As we grieve for our friend, cohort, and love. Let us remember his stories with all the names that he remembered well. Let your hearts heal during the Celebration of Life that will be in Roxbury at The American Legion (date to be announced at a later time), and an opportunity for Riders who wish to escort him to the cemetery.
