It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Roger "Bill" Hutchinson, a devoted husband, cherished father, and grandfather. Bill departed this world on June 21, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering kindness, compassion, and countless treasured memories.
Born in Randolph, he was the oldest of 5 children of Roger and Jeanne (Tabor) Hutchinson. Bill developed his leadership skills early in life. He and his siblings lived a life that revolved around family and love for the outdoors. Always the ringleader in their adventures, and sometimes misadventures, Bill continued to look out for his younger siblings and was always ready with a helping hand. The family moved to Northfield in the 1950s, and it became a beloved homeplace for Bill for the rest of his life.
Bill graduated from Northfield High School. Needing to support his young family, he began what was to be a long and productive career in plumbing and heating. He began with Hutch and Sons Plumbing, worked for several companies before ending with Vermont Mechanical, where he worked for decades as a foreman and project superintendent. He took great pride in the schools and hospitals he helped to build and renovate, as well as the relationships he formed with coworkers and customers.
He married Maria Ahearn on the first day of deer season in 1991. Being from a non-hunting family, she did not realize that this meant that anniversaries would always be celebrated after the end of rifle season. Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing tremendously and kept up with the progress and stories from fellow hunters with great enthusiasm.
Bill is survived by his wife Maria, his daughters, Tamie-Jo Dickinson of South Burlington and Karen Hutchinson of Northfield, 5 treasured grandchildren, Emily Jo Dickinson of Denver Co, Ben Tucker of Northfield, Jackson Tucker of Northfield, Olivia Jo Dickinson of Durham, NC and Wyatt Tucker of Northfield, his sisters Susan Drown of Northfield and Melanie Ross of Chinquapin, NC. Also, he is survived by his loyal, loving, and rambunctious dog, Levi Roger. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Steven and Michael, and his son-in-law Mark Dickinson.
We invite family and friends to meet to mourn and remember Bill on July 8 from 5-7 at Kingston Funeral Home in Northfield. A true Vermonter, Bill was a man of quiet kindness and dependability. He will be remembered for his humor, optimism, and strength during difficult times.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff from Bayada Hospice, Dr Kris Jensen, and Dr Rachel Gaidys for the care and support provided to keep Bill at home through his last months. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Central Vermont Humane Society on behalf of Bill. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Roger, please visit our floral store.
