Alice Grace Haskins May 18, 1931 - February 26, 1925
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother, Alice Grace Haskins, 93, of Waterbury, VT. Alice passed away peacefully at her home, in the company of family, on February 26, 2025. The daughter of Charles A. and Clara (Warren) Ricker, Alice grew up on Ricker Mountain, Little River, in Waterbury. Alice married Charles J. (Chico) Haskins on August 12, 1954. They were together for 35 years until his passing in 1989.
Like many of her generation, Alice experienced hardships during her early years. Alice's mother was seriously injured in a tragic accident when Alice was just three years old. As Alice's mother struggled to recover from her injuries, Alice moved to Northfield, VT, to live with John P. Connarn and his wife Phyllis at the age of 15 where she remained until after her mother's passing. During the brief time she lived in Northfield, Alice attended school and was an active member of the local Methodist church. Alice graduated from Northfield High School in 1951, and married Chico three years later. She spent the early years of her marriage raising her seven children, and she was later employed at the Vermont State Hospital where she stayed until her retirement in 1990.
Alice was a caring friend, a supportive grandmother and a loving and loyal sibling. She was especially close to her sister Florence; their bond was unbreakable. She passed her time doing things she loved: sharing music with family, taking trips to Florida with her close friend Ruth Hough, playing Bingo in the evenings, watching a Red Sox game on a summer afternoon, or cozying up with one of her beloved cats. She appreciated a game show or visit from her children and regularly gave to charities that were important to her. Alice lived her entire life in Waterbury, and could recall stories from almost every part of her beloved town. In her final years, she lived with her son, Scott, who provided her unwavering support and care which Alice's family is so grateful for.
Alice is survived by her children: Susan King and her husband, Edward, of St. George, Sandra Swenor and her husband, Reggie, of Charlotte, Sharon White and fiance, Lee Brown, of South Barre, Charles Scott Haskins of Waterbury, and Stewart Haskins and his wife, Teresa, of Otsego Michigan. She leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren as well as a brother, Daniel Ricker, of South Royalton. She was predeceased by her husband Charles, son Bruce, daughter Shirley Mongeur, grandson Adam White, sister Florence Mitchell and brothers Harold and Raymond Ricker.
Alice's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Dale Stafford (formerly of Berlin Family Medicine) and the Waterbury Ambulance Service for their kindness and care.
A private celebration of Alice's life will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions in Alice's name may be made to the Waterbury Ambulance Service. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Alice, please visit our floral store.
