Edwin Secord Obituary
Edwin D. Secord, III, DDS, MS, died at home after a brief illness.
Ed attended the University of Notre Dame and the University of Detroit School of Dentistry before beginning his career with service as a lieutenant in the United States Navy, which included tours on the USS Boxer and USS Cambria. Following his military service, he both taught and practiced dentistry before specializing in orthodontics, which he practiced for 37 years.
As an orthodontist, he was committed to organized dentistry and served as an officer at the state and local levels, including positions of speaker of the house and president of the Michigan Dental Society and as a board member of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. Upon retirement, he enjoyed a dozen snow-free winters in Florida. A proud Notre Dame football fan, he also enjoyed golf, needlepointing, Tigers baseball, and fishing–a hobby that was especially on his mind in his final days.
He is survived by Carolyn, his wife of 57-years, and their child, Monica (Joseph) Caro, and two grandchildren, Ignatius and Lucia. Ed is also survived by his siblings, Michael (Carol), David (Sue), Therese (the late James) Solsbury, and Robert (Loretta).
The family would be grateful for prayers and Masses on his behalf. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his honor to the Nanovic Institute for European Studies at the University of Notre Dame.
