Elaine L. Baldwin

Elaine Lois (Hulbert) Baldwin, 76, of Clifton, NJ died November 20, 2025, after suffering complications from glioblastoma.
Elaine was a graduate of Clifton High School and Montclair State University where she received both a Bachelor's Degree and two Master's Degrees in Biology and Education. She spent her life dedicated to ensuring children received an excellent public education, which she saw as essential to enhancing their life prospects. Elaine taught earth science from 1971 until 1992 in West Orange, NJ. She then took a leap of faith and became the Curriculum Coordinator, followed by the Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Pequannock Township, NJ. Elaine later served as the Superintendent of Schools in New Milford, NJ and Butler, NJ. She also served as Interim Superintendent in Bloomingdale, Essex Fells, Rutherford, and Woodland Park, NJ before retiring in 2018.
After retirement, Elaine enjoyed spending time with friends and family and doting on her granddaughters. An annual mother-daughter summer vacation to Cape May expanded to include her granddaughters, son-in-law, and son-in-law's brother ("Uncle Bailey") beginning in 2019, where countless memories were made.
Elaine was a force of nature and an inspiration to all who knew her. She was kind, generous, smart, witty, and just. She was a lifelong learner and a voracious reader. She was a loving mother, grandmother ("Nanny"), sister, friend, educator, and mentor to many. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her. Elaine was predeceased by her mother, Dorothy, and father, Raymond. She is survived by her daughter, Kristen Baldwin (Kenny Eng); granddaughters Autumn and Evelyn Eng; sister Deborah Hulbert (Ellen Scheurer); and brother, Raymond Hulbert (Pamela Hulbert); nephews Michael Hulbert (Casey Repasy) and Brian Hulbert.
Visitation is 2 - 6 pm Friday, November 28 2025 at Allwood Funeral Home, 660 Allwood Road, Clifton, NJ 07012. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 29 at 10:30 am at Allwood Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Laurel Grove Memorial Park in Totowa.
