Deacon Elijah Moses, son of the late Lige and Susan Moses, departed this life on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Serenity Hospice at RWJ in Hamilton Township, NJ.
Born in Marion, SC, Elijah received his early education in Latta, SC. After attending elementary school and at the age of 16, his family moved to Trenton, NJ, where Elijah attended Ewing High School. After graduating from Ewing High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1954 until 1959, achieving the rank of Airman First Class.
In 1952, Elijah was baptized into the Union Baptist Church family under the late Reverend Grayson, and he remained a faithful and active member. He also performed in the same capacity for the Progressive National Baptist Convention of New Jersey. In 1989, Elijah was one of the founding members of the Union Baptist Church Van Ministry, where he served for nearly seven years. In November 1992, he began serving on the Union Baptist Church Deacon Board on which he served faithfully until he became ill.
On December 2, 1961, he married Louise Johnson and from this union came two sons, Stanley and Michael Moses, whom blessed the couple with three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
While serving in the Air Force (1954 to 1959), he notably received awards for Air Force Longevity, good conduct, and the National Defense Service Medal. Elijah continued his diligent work performance while working for the United States Postal Service from September 1961 until October1992. During his 31 years with the agency, he received several awards and honors.
In his leisure time, he was an active coach with the West End Little League and the Lions Little League – leagues in which both his sons played. Elijah was also an avid bowler.
After retiring from the United States Postal Service, Elijah remained active and worked part-time in the funeral industry with Campbell Funeral Chapel in Trenton, NJ.
