Elizabeth Lorraine Hungerford

Elizabeth (Betty) Lorraine Hungerford, 78, passed away on Sunday, January 22nd, 2023. Betty was born on September 30th, 1944 in Randolph, Vermont to Arlene Fay and William Bailey Sr. Later moving to Connecticut, she raised her two children and had a fruitful career in which she went on to retire from Whitcraft. She and her family went on to settle in the Quiet Corner of Connecticut, where she was an active member, coach, and advocate for her local Quinebaug Valley Special Olympics with her son, Jeffery, as a dedicated athlete. Her hard work can also be seen in her home, where she and her daughter, Kimberly, created a labor of love and their own haven for their family over the years.
For those who knew Betty, they may describe her as independent, devoted, and selfless - most often seen with a hammer in hand. You could find her working outside, spending time with family and community, reading a good book on the porch, or coaching.
Betty loved coaching Special Olympics and performing on stage as part of the talent show every year with her athletes and fellow "Golden Girls". She loved Christmas traditions shared with her family, from a Muppet Christmas Carol to spritz cookies and bon bons. In her grandchildren, she instilled a love of nature and magic, exploring antique treasure troves, and baking.
With Betty, you could always expect love and support. A devoted mother and grandmother, she is survived by her children, Kim and Jeff, and her grandchildren, Mariah, Zack, and Mia. A loving sister, Betty is also survived by her sister, Norma Jean and brother, Gerry.
