Eloise Elizabeth Levanger Schleck, age 93, of Marion, IL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 7:46 p.m. at home with her loving family by her side.
She was born on October 13, 1930, in Chicago, IL, the only child of Otto Herman and Eloise (Wilson) Levanger. She married Frank M. Schleck on June 30, 1956 in Chicago and he preceded her in death on March 24, 1999 after nearly 43 years of marriage.
Eloise was home schooled until high school. She graduated from Holy Family Academy in Beaverville, IL and furthered her education at Blue Mountain Mississippi College and University of Illinois in Chicago. And at the age of 85, graduated with a degree from John A. Logan College. She was the oldest graduate from the college.
Her working history began as a secretary for Sears. After her children were born, Eloise stayed home to raise and care for her four children. While home, she worked as a market surveyor for Trindex. When she rejoined the workforce outside of the home, she went into factory work, first for a plastics manufacturer, Quality Industries, and lastly for Jefferson Smurfit Corporation, until her retirement.
Eloise and Frank enjoyed spending time camping. They bought a camper at Pyramid Acres on the Lake of Egypt and in 1997, after retiring, they moved permanently to Southern Illinois. Eloise was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, and was also a member of the D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution). She was previously very involved in Cub Scouts in Villa Park, IL, where she served as a den mother, and also previously was an active bowler on the ladies' league. Above all, she was a proud wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren above anything else. Many wonderful memories will be fondly remembered by her loved ones.
She is survived by her children: daughter, Mary Pleticha and husband, Michael, of Glendale Heights, IL; daughter, Carol Barton and husband, Randy, of Marion, IL; son, Mark E. Schleck of Marion, IL; and daughter, Catherine Schleck Swatscheno of Marion, IL. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael Pleticha, Jr., Sean Pleticha, Matthew Pleticha, Bryan Barton and wife, Starla, Arlin Barton and wife, Jesni, Frank Schleck and wife, Rosie, Ashley Schleck, Rose Swatscheno, James Swatscheno, Nicholas Swatscheno, Grant Swatscheno and Zachery Swatscheno; and great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Izzabella and Avery Barton, Trevor, Rhyan, Collins and Connor Barton, Alyana Schleck, and Mailya and Miklya Swatscheno.
