Elva Marie (Shaw) Pocock, age 83, of
Chesterton, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, in
Chesterton, Indiana. She was born on May 16, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, to David and Marjorie (Deacon) Shaw. Elva married Russel Pocock on February 24, 1962, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chesterton.In addition to her loving husband of 62 years, Russel Pocock, Elva is survived by five of her six children, Michael (Ren) Pocock of Coppell, Texas, Terri (Ken) Wilkie of Chesterton, Patrick (Brittany) Pocock of Chesterton, Vanessa (Joe Murray) Pocock of Michigan City, Indiana, and Tami Spillman of Idaville, Indiana; son-in-law, Johnny Reyes of Alvaredo, Texas; 15 grandchildren, Heather (Bobby) Oestreich, Jennifer Flores, Adam Moss, Cassi (Leo) Dinsmore-Blunk, Tricia Thomas of Alberta, Canada, Kaitlin (Michael) White, Sarah Pocock, Connor Pocock, Sawyer Pocock, Jessee Pocock, Brittany, Brooke, Blake, Becca, and Brennan; and 18 great-grandchildren, Brantley, Colton, Taryn, Regan, Paityn, Pandora, Vincent, Mya, Adalina, Jesse, Mav, Colson, Liam, Eli, Amelia, Bash, Van, and Dev. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Marie Pocock King; and her granddaughter, Christina Dinsmore.Elva graduated from Chesterton High School with the class of 1960. She worked at Indiana Dunes State Park from 1982-1987. Elva was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church where she taught CCD, preparing second grade students for growing in faith. She helped as a Den Mother for Cub Scouts at St. Patrick, and also served on the Duneland 4th of July Committee where she helped organize some of the parades and festivals. Elva also served a secretary for the American Museum Military of Vehicles, and won the volunteer of the year award with the Chesterton Junior Woman's Club in 1995-1996. Elva was a coordinator for Table of Plenty to provide meals to anyone who wanted a good meal, since 2007, for the Duneland area.She was an overly generous woman who loved to give and help others, especially through random acts of kindness of sending cards on special occasions to those who touched her life. Elva loved all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had a love for country music, Hallmark movies, and watching General Hospital. Elva also loved to decorate every inch of her house for every holiday, especially at Christmas. She loved the snow and would bake tons of cookies at Christmas for the past 62 years. Elva loved to sing any chance that she had.Visitation for Elva will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Road, Chesterton. Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow visitation at the church and begin at 10:00 a.m. with Father Terry Bennis officiating. Burial will follow in Chesterton Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Russel Pocock. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.ee-fh.com.
