We come together to celebrate the life of Eric DeWayne Whetstone, affectionately known as E-Dubb, a man whose vibrant spirit and generous heart left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Born on January 31, 1976, in the city of Topeka, Kansas, Eric's journey came to a peaceful end in his hometown on August 25, 2024.
E-Dubb was a proud graduate of Highland Park High School, class of 1994, where he was an active participant in both football and wrestling, showcasing his determination and team spirit. His pursuit of education led him to Kansas State University, where he spent a semester expanding his horizons. Eric's love for learning and personal growth was evident to everyone who crossed his path.
Above all, Eric cherished his role as a father. He is survived by his mother Sharon Whetstone, his two daughters, Americka and Katherine "Dayli" Whetstone, who were the center of his world. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, two granddaughters, Meri'Cella and Meri'Vae, and his grandson, Merick Whetstone Jr. Eric's memory will also be honored by his siblings, Corey (Windi) Thomas, Christopher Cowan Sr., Jon Todd Thomas, Durrell Thomas, LaTanya (Chris) Moore, Megan Whetstone, and Samara Thomas, along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were all touched by his generosity and warmth.
Eric's love for his family was paralleled only by his passion for Oklahoma Sooners football. He never missed a game and was known among his friends for his enthusiastic support and encyclopedic knowledge of the team. His infectious laughter and spirited debates about the game will be fondly remembered by all who shared in his joy.
E-Dubb lived his life with a mission to bring happiness to others. Whether it was through his readiness to lend a helping hand or his uncanny ability to lighten the mood with a well-timed joke, Eric was the person you could count on to brighten your day. His generosity knew no bounds; if someone was in need, Eric would do whatever he could to provide support, often going above and beyond to ensure the well-being of those around him.
Eric is proceeded in death by his only son Merick Whetstone Sr, and his father's Robert Luther Whetstone and John Lee Thomas
As we reflect upon Eric's life, we are reminded of the impact one individual can have on a community. His unwavering commitment to his loved ones, his zest for life, and his altruistic nature have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew him. Eric DeWayne Whetstone, E-Dubb, was a beacon of light in the lives of many, and his memory will be cherished forever.
In the days to come, let us honor Eric's memory by emulating his example: by loving deeply, laughing often, and always reaching out a hand to lift others up. Though his physical presence is no longer with us, the essence of who he was will live on in the hearts and minds of those who loved him. Eric DeWayne Whetstone's story does not end here; it is carried forward in the lives he touched and the love he shared.
Goodnight, E-Dubb, and thank you for the joy, the laughter, and the love you gave so freely. Your spirit remains a guiding light to us all.
Gathering for a Celebration of Life and Balloon Release (black and white balloons) will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024, from 6pm-8pm at Shawnee Lake Shelter House #1. Cake and punch provided. This will be a casual event for peace and time to share the love and life of Eric.
