Dr. Eugene "Gene" Lucier passed away on August 2 at his home due to complications from COVID. He was the loving husband of Priscilla A. Morse for 30 years. Born February 20, 1941 in Amesbury, Mass., the son of the late Harry and Florida (Savignac) Lucier.
Gene was a graduate of Amesbury High School, then Dartmouth College as a physics major, Dartmouth Medical School, and University of Pennsylvania Medical School. During the Vietnam war he did a two-year tour military duty at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital as an anesthesiologist. After years of private practice in Mankato, MN, he settled in Winsted, CT. Gene was an anesthesiologist and pain management specialist practicing in Enfield. He filled in for many years at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He loved and was loved by his patients. He loved the outdoors and farm life working on his many farm vehicles. He and his wife have a small beautiful farm stand, Fern Hill Farm, selling fruits, vegetables, eggs, maple syrup, etc.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his sons; Peter Lucier and wife Rachel, Joe Lucier, and Ted Lucier of California; step children Dr. Greg Schmidt and wife Dr. Janet Zahradnik of Avon, CT, Chris Schmidt and wife Molly McHugh of New Hampshire and Nicole Schmidt and husband Eric Skulte and grandchildren, Ivy, Ingram, Violet and Paisley Lucier; Lucas and Corinna Schmidt, Alex and Isabella Skulte. He was predeceased by a brother Harry Lucier of Amesbury, MA.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted, CT is in care of the arrangements. Donations can be made to Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Litchfield County, Winsted, CT. Visit an online guestbook at montano-shea.com.
