Eugene L. Povlock, known affectionately as Gene to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024, in Elkhart, Indiana, at the age of 74. Born on September 9, 1950, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Louis and Marie (Andrews) Povlock.
He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Delchambe; stepdaughter, JoAnne (Gregory) Jester; and stepson, Thomas (Emma) Klempay. Along with his grandchildren, Darlene Povlock-Palmer, William and Thomas Klempay. Jr., Dominick (Meagan Sumption-Rodriquez) Rodriquez, David (Nicole Ndeto) Rhoden, Trevor and Aidan Jester. Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Andersen and his sister, Barbara Stockberger, but is fondly remembered by his brother-in-law, Bill Stockberger.
Gene proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps, a period of his life that instilled in him a deep sense of duty and honor. His commitment to service continued long after his military days were over, as he became a cherished ambassador at the Grand Emerald Retirement Center, where his warmth and generosity brightened the lives of all who crossed his path.
A lifetime member of the American Legion #357, Gene was deeply involved in his community, always ready to lend a hand or share a story. His love for games was legendary, with bingo nights being a particular favorite. His laughter and jovial spirit made him a beloved figure, and his presence turned any gathering into a memorable event.
Gene's love for Notre Dame football was matched only by his love for food and his family. He was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life, and his wonderful sense of humor was a source of joy and comfort to those around him.
Funeral Services for Gene will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Rd. South Bend. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services. Graveside services with military honors will immediately follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend, IN.
Memorial contributions may be made in Gene's honor to Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601
