Eulia Rae O'Neal Scroggs, affectionately known as Rae, departed this life on November 28, 2024, after a final battle with cancer. Born on November 28, 1937, in Raymondville, Texas, Rae's journey came full circle as she passed away on her 87th birthday in Corpus Christi, Texas, surrounded by the love of her family.
Rae was the beloved matriarch of a large and vibrant family. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, John Warren Scroggs, whom she married on March 22, 1957, and then shared a lifetime of love and adventure together. They raised a family that included their 5 children: Steve and his wife Mitzie, Randy and his wife Cindy, Ranae and her husband Greg Belcher, Roger and his wife Kristin, and John and his husband Paul.
Rae was a proud grandmother to Chris, Nick, Olivia, Heather, Forrest, Kelly, Elise, Vincent, Lindsay, Jacob, Philip, Ray, Erik, Ian, Corey, Ryder, Rylan, and Ryker. Each grandchild brought immense joy and pride to her life. Rae also has numerous great-grandchildren and a great number of nephews, nieces, and other extended family members who all greatly loved and will miss their Grandmom/Aunt Rae.
Rae was also preceded in death by her parents Glenn O'Neal and Ivy Mildred Reed O'Neal Bowden, her sisters Bobbie O'Neal Hooker and Patsy O'Neal Lawson, and her brother Ronnie O'Neal.
Rae's life was a testament to her strength, resilience, and capacity for love. As an Army wife, she navigated the challenges of frequent moves and deployments with grace and determination. Her various roles as a military clerk and Army travel agent allowed her to make lasting connections and serve her community in meaningful ways.
An avid gardener, Rae found solace and joy in the beauty of nature. Her well-known green thumb made her home a sanctuary of vibrant, fragrant blooms that she lovingly cultivated. Rae's passion for the beach was evident to all who knew her, as she decorated her home and her life with the serene souvenirs of time spent with her toes in the sand and eyes on the horizon. Her enormous snail figurine collection was a charming reflection of her whimsical spirit and patient love of her children.
As we celebrate Rae's life, we reflect on the legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering strength she leaves behind. Her memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. Rae's spirit, like the gardens she tended, will continue to bloom in the lives of her family and friends, as a lasting tribute to a life well-lived.
As we bid farewell to Rae Scroggs, we honor a life that was as beautiful and multifaceted as the gardens she tended. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide us, just as the lighthouse guides the ships at sea. Rae's presence in our lives was a gift, and her absence will be felt deeply by all who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her warmth, generosity, and radiant spirit.
