Evar Overstrom

Evar Overstrom, 83, lifelong resident of Corning, NY, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2023 at home, surrounded by love.
He was born on August 1, 1939, to parents Hajalmar Henning and Violet Overstrom.
Evar was a graduate of Northside High School, class of '57. He met and married his bride of 62 years, Kathleen Benza, on September 12, 1959. He was a loving husband and caregiver... they shared a beautiful life together.
He is survived by his sister Donna (Bill) Woodruff of Aloha, OR; daughters, Kimberly (Dennis) Bowdy of Dublin, OH and Michelle Overstrom of Swansboro, NC; son, Scott Overstrom of Corning, NY and three grandsons: Jordan, Evan and Camden Bowdy.
Evar was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathleen; brother, Jerome; and sister Bonita Clarkson.
In 1966 he opened and operated Evar's Corning Carpet and Tile, serving the upstate community for over 40 years. "Evar's, East of Corning, West of the Mall"
It would be so easy to talk about his extraordinary life - family, friends, interests and achievements... However, Evar just wanted everyone to know he was proudest of his children and grandchildren, his Swedish heritage and its impact on Steuben Glass making (Grandfather, Henning was the first Steuben Glassblower) and his playing in the 1949 Little League World Series.
The family would like to acknowledge, in the order they came into Evar's life, Angela Fratarcangelo, Esmeralda Miller, Linda Evans, Larry Smith, Stephanie Ulicny, Tracy Margellina, Margaret Black and Tom McFall. Devoted, compassionate, loving, hero caregivers. We will never forget you.
Although there will not be a visitation, family and friends are invited to Evar's funeral service on March 17, 2023 at 1 PM at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 149 West William St., Corning, NY, with the Reverend Jennifer Long officiating. Evar insisted on "keeping it casual"- your favorite golf shirt or Penn State or Buffalo Bills attire welcome. Private entombment will be held at St. Mary's Mausoleum, Corning, NY.
