Frances McMillan Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Frances Jean McMillan, age 87, of Darlington, MD, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 21, 2025. Born in Los Angeles, CA, on November 2, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Donald Albert Clark and the late Learlean "Jean" (Dye) Clark. She was the devoted wife of the late John Harden McMillan, her high school sweetheart and true partner in life, with whom she shared 57 beautiful years of marriage until his passing in 2015.

Frances was a proud 1956 graduate of North Harford High School and later earned her associate degree. Though she found great meaning in her work-as a school bus driver for Harford County School District and later in the administrative office of the Maryland State Highway Department-her greatest joy was found at home, where she poured her heart into raising her family. She was also a woman of deep faith and a longtime member of Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church in Street, MD.

Those who knew Frances will remember her for her gentle spirit, steady strength, and quiet devotion to the people she loved. She found delight in simple joys-quilting, reading, and filling her home with music from the organ. Family was always at the center of her world. She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Michael John McMillan and his wife, Jo, and Jeffrey Dean McMillan and his wife, Liz "Sissy," who cherish the memory of their mother's unwavering love and strong, independent spirit. She will also be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Robbie McMillan and his wife, Megan; Travis McMillan; Rachel and her husband, Joe Catenaci; and Tyler McMillan and his companion, Brenna Dobrowolski. Her great-grandchildren, Benjamin Gabriel McMillan and Adelyn Grace McMillan, were the light of her life and brought her immeasurable joy. Frances is also survived by her sister, Mary Louise Murray; her niece, Rachel Carlsen; and her nephew, Thomas Murray. She was preceded in death by her son, Kelly Thomas McMillan.

A celebration of Frances' life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA, with her North Harford High classmate, Pastor Gerald T. Brown, officiating. Interment will follow in Bel Air Memorial Gardens. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
