Frances Rae Caliendo Shea, 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 25, 2025. Born October 14, 1944, in Hartford, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Camille (Stephenson) Caliendo.
Fran grew up in Windsor, CT, the first of 6 children graduating from Windsor High School in 1962. After marrying in 1965, she moved to Bitburg, Germany where she had many memorable experiences and gave birth to the first of 5 children.
Fran's most fulfilling job was that of Mother, which she did full time for more than 15 years. As her children grew, she found a career in insurance working for The Hartford for 23 years. Her role in Claims led her to a 1-year assignment in Aurora, Illinois where she made dear friends and was instrumental in establishing an important Catastrophe Claims Organization before retiring in 2007.
Fran was known to all as a kind, sweet, thoughtful, peacekeeping lady. She loved spending time with family, crafts, knitting, campfires, road trips, dining out, penny slots at any casino, UCONN Women's Basketball and ocean cruising. She especially enjoyed her extended vacations with close friends on the Rappahannock River in Virginia.
Beyond any other, being a mother was her greatest accomplishment and joy. She had 5 children in 6 years, often reflecting with pride on her 'Irish Triplet' daughters, all born within 21 months.
She is survived by her 5 children: Karen Pavio (Steven) of Burlington, CT where she made her home for the last 23 years; Kathleen Mormino (Thomas) of West Suffield, CT; Cynthia Lizano (Anthony) of Alamo, CA; Michael Shea of Bristol, CT; Brian Shea (Tina) of Burlington, CT. 11 Grandchildren: Joseph Lipski (Leah Maghini); Julia Lipski, Daniel Lipski (Alanna Sartirana); Sarah Mormino, Sophia Mormino, MaryKate Mormino, Alexandra Lizano (Hayden Dreesmann), Jacob Lizano, Ella Shea, Sarah Shea, Hannah Shea. 2 Great-Grandchildren: Maybelle Lipski, Henry Lipski and a 3rd baby girl expected on 11-7-25. Siblings: Rita Tryon, Stephen (Karen) Caliendo, Carol (Mark) Toce. Nieces and Nephews: Deborah Tryon, Rebecca (Eric) Bilodeau, Alexander Caliendo, Camille Caliendo, Andrew (Kaytlynn) Toce, Christopher (Megan) Toce and several additional extended family members.
Fran also leaves her soul-dog "Gabe", who was her close, constant, and beloved companion for 13 years.
In addition to her mother, she was pre-deceased by an infant sister Mary Caliendo, a brother Bernard Caliendo, special aunt Vivian Stephenson and close uncle Fr. Raymond Stephenson.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. Damien Molokai Parish-St. Joseph Church, 1747 Poquonock Ave, Windsor. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windsor.
At her request, there will be no calling hours.
