Francis J. Goodwin, 91, of Windsor Locks, beloved husband of the late Joyce Goodwin, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 17, 2025, at St. Francis Hospital. Born on July 30, 1933, in Hartford, CT, he was the son of the late Estelle (Peteroski) Goodwin. Francis grew up in Windsor before settling in Windsor Locks.
Francis honorably served his country in the United States Army saving his lieutenant's life, showing his bravery during a rocket launch incident. He also had tours overseas, spending time in Germany. After the service, he embarked upon a career as an apprentice plumber where he learned valuable skills that he later used in his home. He later worked for the state of Connecticut during the winter as a truck driver, plowing our highways and making them safe. During this time, he won numerous safety awards from the state. After many years of dedicated work, he retired to enjoy time with his wife and family taking trips across United States in his 1987 Dodge truck that he was very proud of.
Francis was also a very spiritual man believing in Jesus and the bible and that the world is balanced.
He was predeceased by his wife, Joyce, in 2022, and his son-in-law, John DellaGuistina. He leaves behind his step children, Janet DellaGuistina and James Guthrie, both of Windsor Locks; his cherished grandchildren, Amy and Julie DellaGuistina and Ryan Guthrie. Also he leaves behind his sons Greg Goodwin of East Granby and Rande Goodwin of Windsor, his brother Jerry Foss and his wife Flora of West Granby and many dear friends and good neighbors that supported him through the years.
A private graveside service will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery in Poquonock. For those who wish to share their memories or send their condolences, please visit www.windsorlocksfuneralhome.com.
