Furman Payne Merrill

Thomasville – Furman Payne Merrill, 79, entered his heavenly home on Thursday, February 20, 2025, from his earthly residence.
Furman was born on December 15, 1945, in Thomasville, NC to the late John Virgil Merrill and Macie Blanche Carpenter. In addition to his parents, two sons, Furman Wayne Merrill and Mark Kevin Merrill; two brother, Johnny and Gary Merrill; two sisters, Saundra Atkins and Linda Tysinger, all preceded him in death.
Furman loved his Lord and Savior with all his heart, and this was reflected in the way he lived his life. He was a charter member of Colonial Baptist Church and loved his church family.
Furman loved and was devoted to wife, Brenda, and all his family. He missed his two sons who died before him. He had a servant's heart, and this was reflected in his love of helping others. Furman loved his cats, especially, Whiskey and his dogs, Molly and Smokey. He worked for Dar-Ran Furniture company and retired from there.
Furman served in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served his country. In honor of his service, he will be inurned at Salisbury National VA Cemetery in a private gathering of family at a later date.
Furman is survived by his wife, Brenda Stanley Merrill; daughter-in-law, Susan Foster Merrill; sisters, Sherry Ann Harris (Jimmy) and Carolyn Kennedy; two grandchildren, Emily Madison and Kevin Foster Merrill; great-granddaughter, Sylvie Merrill; three sisters-in-law, Nancy Carlisle, Linda Williams, Anna Saunders.
A memorial service for Furman will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, 2025. At Colonial Baptist Church 6792 Welborn Road in Trinity, NC. The family will greet friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
