Garry Douglas Mattingly, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024, in Fisherville, Kentucky, with his loving family by his side. Born in Lebanon, Kentucky, on June 20, 1957, Garry embraced life with quick wit, a great sense of humor, and an unwavering dedication to his loved ones.
A proud graduate of Southern High School, Garry continued his education at the University of Louisville, where he earned a bachelor's degree, he also served the community in his role as a member of the Buechel Fern Creek Jaycees . He built a distinguished career as a Certified Public Accountant, demonstrating hard work and commitment to excellence throughout his professional life. His expertise made him a respected member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, reflecting his dedication to his craft and community.
Garry found joy not only in his career but also in the great outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loving every moment spent gathering with friends and family, whether shooting or merely enjoying the serenity of nature. A true foodie at heart, he relished good food, watching sports, and spending time at the lake, often sharing those moments with his family.
Family was at the center of Garry’s life; his proudest accomplishments included watching his family grow and flourish. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Dawn Mattingly; his beloved grandchildren, Hailey (Dallas) Ludwick, Jared Ludwick, and Kaitlyn (Kevin) Ludwick; and his cherished great-grandson, Rowan Howell. He is also survived by his dear brother, Rickey (Debbie) Mattingly; his niece, Crystal (Derrick) Slaughter; his nephew, Alex Mattingly; and his great-nephew, Dylan (Kennedie) Mattingly, alongside many loving friends.
Garry was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Mary Mattingly, and his brother John Mattingly. Their guiding spirits will forever remain with him, as his love for family echoed in everything he did.
Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate Garry's remarkable life. Visitation will be held on December 26, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 5:00 PM, both at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville, located at 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky, 40243.
Garry Douglas Mattingly leaves behind not just memories but also a legacy of love, laughter, and hard work. He will be profoundly missed and eternally cherished in the hearts of those who knew him.
