James "Jim" Sanford Ashley, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and community leader, passed away on November 5, 2025. He was born on August 24, 1941, in Louisville to the late Alice Virginia Stump Ashley and Maurice Sanford Ashley.
He lived a life marked by service, leadership, and compassion. He served as Past President of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) both nationally and in Kentucky, and was a dedicated member of CASA, advocating for children in need. He also led his neighborhood as President of the Harmony Place Homeowners Association. A proud Eagle Scout and United States Air Force veteran, he exemplified integrity and commitment throughout his life. He was a graduate of Southern High School, the University of Louisville, and was an avid U of L Cardinals fan.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Derek, who passed in 1994 at the age of 21. Derek's memory remained a source of strength and inspiration throughout his life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Ashley; daughter, Jennifer Moberly (John); stepchildren, Kalin Johnson (Kandace) and Kurt Johnson (Melissa); cherished grandfather to Bailey Moberly (engaged to Jackson Ramsey), Reece Moberly, and Kelsey Hoag (Jon); sister, Jan Merrick; niece, Lynn Naiser (Jeff); and his great nephews, Dalton and Lucas Naiser. He will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his community, and his country. His legacy of leadership, kindness, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Yesterday

I pray for peace and comfort for Karen, Jennifer and the entire family.
My friend Jim, leaves a great legacy. I had the privilege of working with Jim and Karen at Prudential Insurance Company in Louisville. Jim was a true leader and professional who helped guide me and many others in the insurance business and was an inspiration. He always showed true love for his family, friends and associates.
I have not seen Jim since 1991, but he sent me a Christmas card every year and I will miss getting it this year!
Fun Fact: A few days after arriving in Louisville, I played in a golf scramble with Jim. On one hole, I could not see the green and asked Jim to point out the direction. He pointed and said hit toward that tire. I looked, but could not see a tire anywhere. So I asked him to point out the tire. He pointed and said " can´t you see that tire, it must be 50 feet tall". He gave me my first lesson in speaking Louisvillian.
Rest in peace my friend!
