Garth Fowers Moore, 88, of Roy, UT, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2022, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 28, 1934, in Hooper, UT, to Joseph and Susan Rae Moore. Garth enjoyed farm life, horseback riding and duck hunting while growing up in Hooper.
Garth graduated with an Associate of Science degree from Weber College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Utah.
On June 7, 1956, he married the love of his life, Florence Higgs, in Salt Lake City, UT. They moved immediately to Van Nuys, CA. After living in California for 14 months, they moved back to Utah.
Garth worked as a mechanical engineer for Marquardt, Thiokol and the Department of Defense at Hill Air Force Base, working on Bomarc, Minuteman and Titan missiles and designing RFHCO suits. After retiring from HAFB, he wanted to stay busy, so he went to work at Eagle Lake Golf Course. He worked there until he was physically unable.
Garth and Florence were blessed with three wonderful children, one son, Robbi, and twin daughters, Sherri and Terri. He loved camping, boating, fishing, hunting and traveling with his family. Many family trips were made to Cave Falls, Flaming Gorge and Lake Powell. He always made sure his family's poles, lines and fish were taken care of before he got a chance to fish. Often when Garth traveled for work, he took his family along and made it a family vacation... favorites were Disneyland and Seattle. His family was always his top priority, and he was always willing to help anyone in need.
He was our Roy Ute! He loved attending UofU football, baseball, basketball (both men's and women's) games and gymnastics meets. He and his best friend, Lorin Peck, traveled to as many away games as they could. Going to the Sugar Bowl in 2009, beating the Alabama Crimson Tide was a highlight.
Garth is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Hazel (Ervin) Heslop, Oakley (Merlene) Moore, Arthur Moore, Gale Moore, and Ilene (Blair) Dahl. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 65 years, Florence; children, Robbi (Jaime) Moore, Sherri (Scott) Murray, and Terri (Kelly) Checketts; grandchildren, Kristen (Thomas) McKenna, Cameron (Ericka) Moore, Stephanie (Jaron) Green, Ron (Nicole) Murray, Brad (Katie) Checketts, Catherine (Michael) Barrett, Aaron Moore and Heidi (Seth) Waddoups; 23 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Nola Moore and Ivy Moore.
Garth's loving care and sense of humor will be treasured and missed by all who knew him. The family wishes to thank Essential Care, Noa, Lika and Sepa, and Aspen Ridge Home Health and Hospice for the loving care they provided.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., at Myers Mortuary, 5865 S. 1900 w., Roy, Utah. A viewing will be held on Monday, May 23, 2022, from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. and prior to services from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the same location. Interment will be in the Hooper Cemetery.
