Gary Wright Moyers, 85, of Mt. Crawford, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023, at Sunnyside Retirement Communities in Harrisonburg.
Mr. Moyers was born April 6, 1938 and was the son of the late Raymond J. and Vergie Wright Moyers. He was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Loyd Newman and his mother and father-in-law, Margaret and Grattan Suter.
Gary was a graduate of Bridgewater High School and served our country with the Army National Guard. He attended Madison College (JMU) and Blue Ridge Community College. Along with his brother Lowell, he was the co-owner and operator of Moyers Brothers Dairy Farm. After retiring from the farm, he served as the manager of the Pro-Cal Division at Rockingham Co-operative in Bridgewater, and later worked in the retail store in Harrisonburg. Gary faithfully served the community on numerous agri-business boards and commissions. A special part of Gary's life was devoted to serving others. He was a licensed EMT for over 32 years. He volunteered with Bridgewater Rescue Squad where he held leadership positions as both Chief and President. He was an active member of Massanutten Presbyterian Church for over 20 years. Gary enjoyed traveling in the US and abroad and served as a host for Kristen's Travels. He loved being with his family and friends and always loved making new friends.
He is survived by his wife, Janice "Bonnie" Suter Moyers; brother, Lowell Moyers and wife, Paula; sister, Judy Burkholder and husband, Owen; sister-in-law, Shirley Newman; brother-in-law, Frank Suter and wife, Liz; treasured nieces and nephews, Jeffrey Newman and wife, Carla; Sharon Newman; Stacy Suter and wife, Susan and their children, Harrison and Hannah; Leslie Burkholder and husband, Nathan; Kristen Drueen and husband, Michael and her children, Daniel, Grayson and Nicholas Blye; Susan Jordan and husband, Mike and their children, Emily and Katie; and Jason Burkholder and wife, Nichole and their children, Anna and Julia, as well as numerous cousins and extended family members.
A private graveside service will be held with the family at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Massanutten Presbyterian Church in Penn Laird, with Pastor Ann Pettit officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
