Gary Alan Schovajsa, age 77, of Morton, Texas, died Saturday, April 1, 2023 in Levelland. He was born May 22, 1945 in Amherst, Texas to Edward Lee and Helen (Brantley) Schovajsa. He married Donna Sims in Morton on October 12, 1996.
Gary graduated from Littlefield High School and Texas Tech University with a BS degree in Agricultural Education. He served in the US Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. Gary was an ag and science teacher as well as a coach at numerous schools across the South Plains including Amherst, Sundown, Morton, Sprinklake-Earth and Anton. He retired from coaching and pursued his love of agriculture on his family's farm and the Muleshoe National Wildlife Refuge. He was a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association. Gary loved the Lord and was a faithful servant. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Elizabeth Cummings and Edwina Patterson.
Gary is survived by his wife, Donna; two sons, Charles Schovajsa and his wife, Chanda of Sudan, Texas and Russ Liner and his wife, Emily of Lubbock, Texas; three daughters, Cari Schovajsa of Lubbock, Texas, Caci McClure and her husband, Scott of Plano, Texas and Mikella Newsom and her husband, John of Lubbock, Texas; a sister, Joanne Hayworth of Lubbock, Texas; a brother, Larry Schovajsa and his wife, Sharon of Lubbock, Texas; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be sent to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, PO Box 1890, Amarillo, Texas, 79105. Online condolences may be made at www.ellisfuneralhomes.com.
