Gary Calvin Strauss, a resident of Rochester Hills since 1975, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025, at the age of 81.
Born on March 14, 1944, in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, Gary was the beloved son of James and Donna Strauss. He was raised in Mount Pleasant and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School. Following high school, Gary earned his associate's degree and went on to enjoy a fulfilling career in computer repair, programming, and software engineering, including time spent working at Central Michigan University.
On June 29, 1967, Gary married the love of his life, Sandra, in his hometown of Mount Pleasant. Together, they built a loving home and raised three sons.
Gary was a man of many interests. In his younger years, he enjoyed archery and bowling. A lifelong learner, he was an avid reader and proudly kept a personal library in his room. But above all else, Gary was devoted to his family. His most cherished roles were those of husband, father, and grandfather. Known for his easygoing nature and likable personality, Gary will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 58 years, Sandra Strauss; his children, Craig (Pamela) Strauss, Christopher (Lisa) Strauss, and Kevin (Paige) Strauss; his grandchildren, Nikolaus, Alyssandra, Gabriella, Mia, Brady, Ashley, and Collin; and his great-grandchildren, Jaxson and Kayden. He is also survived by his sister, Linda (James) Dening. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, James and Donna Strauss.
A memorial gathering will take place from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at Gramer Funeral Home, Diener Chapel, 48271 Van Dyke Avenue, Shelby Township, MI, 48317. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Gary, please visit our Tree Store.
