George Fisher Townsend Jr.

George Fisher Townsend Jr., exceptionally loved by his family and friends, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2023, in Lansing, Michigan with his son, daughters, and family by his side. Born on April 23, 1961, in Detroit, Michigan, George was a man of great character and humor, who touched the lives of those around him with kindness and understanding.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate George will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at 4:00pm at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Perry Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00pm until the service. The burial will take place on Monday, August 28, 2023 at 1:00pm at Pine River Cemetery in Standish.
George graduated from Fowlerville High School in 1979, marking the beginning of his journey into adulthood. Shortly after graduation, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1979 to 1982, a period in his life that shaped his principles and fortified his strong sense of duty and commitment.
On October 2, 1995, George married the love of his life, Veronica Anne Setlak, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Morrice. Their union was one of love, respect, and dedication. They had three children together, daughters; April, Lilly, and son Quintin. Although Veronica, affectionately known as Roni, predeceased him in 2009, George continued to honor her memory through his love for their children. Although George's love for his late wife never died, he was able to find love once again through his girlfriend of 9 years, Kelly.
George was a simple man with a quick wit and a great sense of humor who cared deeply for those he loved. As a family man, George cherished the time he spent with his children, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
George is survived by his daughters, April and Lillian Townsend, and his son, Quintin George Townsend. His siblings; William (Kathleen) Townsend, Kenneth Townsend, Pamela (Jerry) Petrie, Debra Herbert, and Gerald (Kris) Scherer, also his girlfriend, Kelly Perkins, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife, Veronica, his parents, Patricia (Shmidt) Scherer and George Fisher Townsend Sr., grandparents, and many beloved family members and friends.
