Obituary of Gerald V. Amari
Gerald "Jerry" Vincent Amari, age 72, of Vineland, NJ, passed away peacefully on January 14th at Cooper Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Catherine Amari. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dawn (Everett) Amari; two children, Kathryn (Jeremy Hart) Amari of Allentown, PA and Michael (Shana Kingsley) Amari of Catskill, NY; sister Judy (Albert) Tamagni of Vineland, NJ; in-laws Earl and Nancy Everett of Hilton Head, SC; brother-in-law Jess (Denise) Everett of Hickory, NC; brother-in-law Mark Everett of Little Falls, NJ; along with three nieces and three nephews.
Born and raised in East Vineland, Jerry attended Vineland High School (class of '71) and East Carolina University. His love for music led him to be an on-air DJ at WMMR and WYSP in Philadelphia, and a manager of a local record store, The Listening Booth. He worked for years as a department manager at multiple retail stores including Bradlees and eventually settled into a customer relations role at Raritan Engineering in Millville. He retired in 2022.
Known for his positive outlook on life, Jerry was an active member of the community and a friend to all. Growing up the son of a farmer, he later embraced his love of gardening and shared his bounty with anyone and everyone. He was especially proud of his enormous sunflowers, variety of tomatoes, and figs from a 100+ year old tree planted by his grandfather. He served on the Board of Directors for Vineland Soccer Association for many years, volunteered as an usher at the Levoy Theatre, and was a member of the church council at Redeemer Lutheran Church.
He will be lovingly remembered with a visitation on Friday, January 24th from 6pm until 8pm at DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home, 2755 S. Lincoln Ave., Vineland, and with a memorial service on Saturday, January 25th at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2384 E. Landis Ave., Vineland, with visitation at 10am, service at 11am, and luncheon to follow. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jerry's honor to Redeemer Lutheran Church, American Farmland Trust, or The Levoy Theatre.
