Gerald Ercelle Farrar age 81, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Hillcrest Village in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Jerry was born on June 18, 1943, in Grayson, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Charles Helen Barnhill and Gibson Botts Farrar.
As a youth, Jerry grew up in Abilene and Big Springs, Texas, before his family moved to Louisville. Here he went to Waggener High School, and then attended the University of Kentucky. While there he majored in journalism and received a BA degree. Returning to Louisville, he went to work for the Belknap Hardware Company. He was at Belknap for twenty years and worked in marketing as well as director for the Bluegrass Credit Union. Following that he was an employee of the Kentucky Opera for fifteen years where he was Director of Public Relations and an important part of their fundraiser Hard Scuffle, a steeplechase. Jerry was adept at writing and enjoyed utilizing his skills at both jobs.
Jerry was a member of the First Christian Church and a longtime resident of the Masonic Home. He enjoyed gardening, music, and being with family and friends. Of special importance to him were his cousin Everett Bradford, Jr. and friend John Kleber.
Interment will be private in Cave Hill Cemetery.
Arrangements under the direction of Pearson's, "Where Louisville Goes to Remember."
