Gladys Maria Mickles was born on February 26, 1934, in Plainfield, New Jersey. She was the youngest child of the late William (Bill) and Odell Campbell. She fell asleep in death on Sunday, September 22, 2024.
She was born in Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, NJ. However, she was raised and educated in Westfield, NJ. In 1952, she graduated from Westfield Senior High School. In 1960, she married her husband, Joe. They returned to Plainfield in 1962.
Gladys had a long career at Bell Telephone and AT&T – working there for over 30 years. In 1963, Gladys was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in Orchard Beach, Bronx, NY. In 1991, she began serving as a regular pioneer. She was faithful for over 60 years and was regular in the ministry. Many can remember her traveling locally in her blue Dodge car. Every week, she would visit one of her favorite local places to eat – Bill's Luncheonette or the China Buffett. Shopping at 'Unique' Stores was also one of her pastimes. Autumn was one of her favorite seasons. She would pick up the leaves that she thought were beautiful and save them. And she had a fondness for cats. ("Roly-Poly" and "Mother Kitty" was Two of her favorites.)
Gladys was feisty and independent. She loved to use her age to her advantage when she could.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, William (Bill) and Odell Campbell, her husband Joe, and siblings Billy Campbell and Marjorie Lee. She leaves to cherish her memories: her nephews Nathan Lee III and Christopher Campbell, niece Arlene Campbell, cousin Jerilynn McIntosh, 10 great-nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
