Gregory "Greg" Davis, born on November 1st, 1971, in Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on October 3nd, 2024, following an 11-month battle with cancer, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, leadership, and love for his family, friends, and community.
Greg grew up in a close-knit Catholic family, attending St. Rita School and graduating from DeSales High School in 1990, where he played football and developed a love for sports that would last a lifetime. He went on to the University of Kentucky, earning a Bachelor's degree in Accounting in 1994. As a proud member of Sigma Nu fraternity, Greg forged lifelong friendships and deepened his passion for Kentucky Wildcats sports. He followed the Cats through thick and thin; and this year, he fulfilled a bucket list dream by attending the Wildcats baseball team's first College World Series. Just days before his passing, he cheered on the football Cats to a thrilling victory over Ole Miss.
Greg was a devoted and loyal employee at Humana, where he worked for 27 years. Known for his leadership and integrity, he held various leadership roles, culminating in his position as Director of Compliance and Quality for the Provider Organization. Greg's boss described him as someone who "built a culture of compassion and partnership. He left every team he led better than it was before, and he was dearly loved and respected by colleagues throughout the company."
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Greg was a dedicated family man and a passionate coach. He generously gave his free time to coaching every sport for his three children, from baseball and basketball to football and girls' flag football. Greg moved mountains to attend every game his kids played, and through his guidance, he "raised" many athletes, leaving a lasting impact on their lives and experiences. Greg was remembered by many as a "leader of young men," helping shape not only their skills on the field but also their character and confidence in life.
Greg's greatest joy and pride came from the love he shared with his wife, Candy, whom he was married to for 27 years, and their three children, Ryan, Logan, and Ella. He adored every minute he spent with his family, whether it was coaching, attending games, or simply enjoying time together. His love for his children was boundless, and he cherished watching them grow, learn, and thrive. To Candy, he was not just a devoted partner but also a best friend, whose love and commitment made every day better. Greg's family was the heart of his life, and his impact on them will be felt forever.
Greg had a unique superpower: he could hear just a few notes of a song and instantly name the artist and title. This gift never failed to impress friends and family, as music brought him joy and connection. Whether through songs, sports, or a shared laugh, Greg knew how to bring people together.
Greg maintained friendships from all walks of life. He has numerous memories made with friend groups dating back to grade school and high school, early Humana days, fellow coaches, parish members and others. He had a special bond with a crew of friends who shared his love for horse racing, and they had a memorable victory at the 2024 Kentucky Derby. Whether it was cheering for his Wildcats or placing a friendly bet on the horses, Greg's enthusiasm for life and friendship was always evident.
Greg was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harold and Henrietta Atwell, Thomas and Metabeth Davis; and his father-in-law, Tommy French.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Candy French Davis, and their three children, Ryan, Logan, and Ella. He is also survived by his parents, Larry and Diane Davis; his brother, Jeff (Leslie), and their children Drew and Alli; his brother-in-law, Travis French (Tracy), and their children, Thomas, Maddie, Ryleigh, and Gracie. A member of Holy Trinity Parish, Greg's faith was central to his life, guiding his actions and relationships with those around him.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 7th, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Tuesday, October 8th, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, Louisville, KY, 40205. Greg's funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 9th, at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Parish, 501 Cherrywood Lane, Louisville, KY 40207.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Greg's memory to the Jimmy V Foundation for cancer research.
Rest in peace, Greg. You touched countless lives and left them better than you found them, and your memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew you.

I had the opportunity to teach Greg during his DeSales years 1986-1990. He was a dedicated student who worked diligently in the classroom and contributed greatly to unity and strength in football and baseball. Can still see his smile and hear his laugh. As Retreat Director, I witnessed his great efforts on his senior retreat, and he obviously put that message into practice as he chose to marry his beloved Candy. His legacy continues through his great children, and he calls us all to value each moment of our lives, As we walk humbly with our God. May we invoke Greg´s intercession, as we continue our own path toward building and experiencing God`s kingdom.
With love & respect

Prayers for Greg´s family. I worked with Greg a couple of times at Humana and even sat with him for lunch at last month´s Humana Community Day. He was always such a positive presence no matter what was going on. I will forever remember him as one of Good Ones.

Candy, I am so sorry for your loss. Although I hadn´t seen Greg in a number of years some of our favorite memories were spent at St. Matthews watching the boys play baseball. You and Greg were also so kind and supportive of the program and he was such a wonderful coach and person. I wish there was some words that I could offer in comfort, but praying for you and your family during this difficult period.
