Gunnar Overberg Obituary

Gunnar served his country honorably in the Navy, entering in 1969, and spent most of that time aboard the USS Keppler until his honorable discharge in 1971. After his return from the Vietnam War, he and his brother Keith founded and operated Jay Scott Construction. Gunnar was a talented craftsman of many trades, but masonry and woodworking were his passions. Gunnar also worked as a tractor trailer driver for many years before moving on to Gove Lumber (formerly in Beverly), with his most recent career as a security guard at Axcelis Technologies in Beverly. In his spare time, Gunnar enjoyed landscaping, camping, woodworking and spending time with his family.
Gunnar is survived by his loving wife Linda with whom he shared 50 years of marriage. He is also survived by: His daughter Corinne Orfanos of Peabody, MA; His son Aron Overberg and wife Darcy of Danvers, MA; His daughter Dana Cahalin and her husband Brendan of Beverly, MA; and his many grandchildren: Gianna & Caleb Orfanos, Alivia, Jaxson & Jamison Overberg, and Mason & Lillian Cahalin. In addition to his parents, Gunnar is predeceased by his brothers Keith Overberg & Carl Overberg.
Gunnar will be remembered as a hard-working, dedicated family man who gave everything to his loved ones. He will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held in Gunnar's honor on Sunday, October 20th at 2pm at the Italian Community Center (ICC) in Beverly, MA. For those that wish, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans at help.dav.org in Gunnar's honor. Arrangements by Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly, MA.
