Gustave "Gus" J. Brodeur, 92, of Granby, CT, beloved husband of the late Lorraine Marie Brodeur, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025, with his loving family supporting him to the end. Gus was born in St. Hughes, Quebec on September 20, 1932, to the late George and Blanch (Cote) Brodeur.
Raised in this beautiful farm town till 14 yrs old, he helped with the farming chores. He then was selected by a priest to attend Oblate Fathers Seminary in Bucksport, Maine. Gus graduated high school, Class of 1950 and continued his college education for 3 yrs. During this period his family moved to Hartford CT. During his summer vacation he worked at the Royal Typewriter company where he met Lorraine, his future wife. They married on August 13, 1955. He shortly enlisted in the Army for 3 yrs. Had they their 1st born in Fort Hood Tx. Transferred to Paris, France where he was a French interpreter. When he was discharged, they returned home and continued to grow their wonderful large family.
For 34 years of his career and prior to retirement in 1992, Gus was a Meter Reader and Supervisor for Connecticut Natural Gas. He enjoyed reminiscing about all.
Gus always had a deep dedication and devotion to his religion. It was truly his highest love. He was a member of St. Therese Church in Granby, CT, where he also served as a Eucharistic Minister and brought the Eucharist to patients at Meadow Brook of Granby. He was very involved in the church his entire life. Gus was a member of Knights of Columbus, Simsbury and a member of Our Lady of the Lake in Southwick, MA for 10 years as well as St. Ann Church in Hartford before moving to Granby. He also participated in external bible study groups. When Gus had time, he often volunteered at the House of Bread in Hartford, he did this for 10 years.
Gus was a hard worker no matter what he did.
He loved his big family, friends, and loved his awesome large garden (and chasing the bears away). He and Lorraine loved the massive picnics with each side of the family. Those were the best.
In 2017 Lorraine left us. Gus started to say, "I'm ready to go" very routinely. He meant it and was at peace with it. Also, he looked forward to seeing Lorraine again. Gus was truly ready.
He enjoyed playing golf with Uncles Pete and Bob St Pierre in the early days.
He enjoyed outings with his friend Bob, which included mini golf and an occasional pub beer. Bob/Shirley were special friends
During the last 2 1/2 yrs Gus needed care at home.
We were fortunate to have brought in Homewatch CareGivers. Gus ended up with aides that were nothing less than outstanding. Making their own connections with Gus. He wasn't easy down the stretch, not hearing and very little speaking can be frustrating. Even then they improvised connections with Gus. They all genuinely enjoyed caring for Gus. Thank You All. Every one of you.
Gus will be missed by his loving family; sons, Richard (Kathy) Brodeur of Granby, CT, Micheal (Rose) Brodeur of Granby, CT and David (Cindy) Brodeur of Glastonbury, CT; daughters, Linda (Norman) Faust of Southwick, MA, and Celeste Brodeur of Granby, CT; sister, Marie-Anne Beaudry of Montreal, Quebec and a brother, Constance Brodeur of Sorel, Quebec; 17 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and special friends. Predeceased by his loving wife, Lorraine Brodeur; both parents, George and Blanch Brodeur; brothers George Etienne, Rosaire and Gilles Brodeur; sisters, Yolande Paquette and Monique Simone as well as a grandson, Christopher Michael Wood.

Since the passing of our dear friend Gus, we can honestly say that not a day goes by without us missing him. The world was so much better with Gus in it. Along with his wife Lorraine, he raised a wonderful family and honored the Lord every day of his life. We were blessed to call him our friend. Until we meet again...
Love,
Bob & Shirley

To My friend for over 40 years,

Your friendship has meant so much to Shirley & I. You were our best friend. Every time I think of you, I had a smile on my face. You made me laugh so often and you had such a kind heart for everyone. You loved your children, grandchildren & great grandchildren dearly and spoke of them often with so much joy & pride. You had a picture of your beautiful wife Lorraine by your favorite chair in your house. I know you adored her & looked forward to being with her again. You and Lorraine have a beautiful family and it's not surprising based on the honor, integrity and faith in God that you both lived by your entire life.

You were willing to do things with me that I suggested that not many men at 90 years old would be willing to do. You enjoyed a beer with me, saw Top Gun, Bells of Saint Mary's & Its A Wonderful Life, frequent trips to Costco enjoying the $1.50 hotdogs, $5.00 Roast Chickens & snacks at the various food stations. I remember at Costco when you were 89, you actually ran with your carriage & beat me to the cashier to show me how limber you were!

The only thing that I did not appreciate was that you beat me in billiards/8 ball with a crazy difficult shot that only a hustler could make.
You also beat me in Miniature golf that also was a severe blow to my ego!

You decided to leave this life before I could regain the billiards/golf titles. I can't blame you as Lorraine was a much nicer and prettier person to see versus my crusty mug.

Gus, we love you with all our heart & hope to meet up again in heaven!!

Bob & Shirley
