Romeo Bisson, a beloved father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at the age of 90. As promised, he spent his final moments surrounded by love at the home of his son, Alain, and daughter-in-law, Joanne, in Granby, CT. Our family is heartbroken to announce his passing after a courageous battle with cancer and other health challenges.
Romeo was born in Canada on September 29, 1934, to the late Louie and Germaine (Loubier) Bisson. One of eleven children, he grew up with a strong work ethic and a deep sense of family. At just 16, Romeo became a professional lumberjack in the northern regions of Quebec, Canada.
At 23, Romeo married Candide Roy. Together, they had four children and built a life on a 100-acre farm in Quebec. Recognizing the need for additional opportunities to support his family, Romeo immigrated to the United States with his wife and children, a decision that would define much of his life's journey.
With unwavering dedication, Romeo established himself as a skilled carpenter, a trade he passed on to his two sons, who carried his lessons throughout their lives. His hard work allowed him to purchase multiple homes in Hartford and Newington, CT, and to provide his children with a private Catholic school education.
Later in life, Romeo and Candide separated, and he found companionship with Annette Miller. He spent over 20 joyful years with Annette, enjoying retirement in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Romeo traveled extensively throughout Europe, relished cruise-ship adventures, and cherished visits from his siblings and family.
Romeo was a caring and loving father, known for his captivating stories of life's challenges and triumphs. These stories, filled with wisdom and warmth, will forever be cherished by his family. His love, strength, and guidance created an unbreakable bond, and his memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those he touched, and his legacy will continue to shine through his family.
Romeo is survived by his sons, Michael and Alain Bisson; his daughter, Brigitte Bisson; his son-in-law Stephen Wieda; his daughter-in-law, Joanne Morin; and his four grandchildren: Alaina and Sarah Bisson, Nicole Lang and her husband, Adam Lang, and Robert Bisson.
He also leaves behind his cherished siblings and their spouses: Julienne (Rock), Bernard (Berthe), Jean-Louis (Paule), Eugene (Doris), Fernande, Louis (Charles), Ginette, Suzanne (Angelo), Pierrette (Marquis), and Richard (Laraine).
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025 at 11:00AM at Hayes-Huling & Carmon Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook Street, Granby, CT, 06035.
