Harold Eugene Hooper, 91, passed away on May 22, 2025, in Springfield, MO. Harold was born on August 15, 1933, in Muskogee, OK, to parents William Jesse Hooper and Stella M. Hooper (Hall). Survived by daughter Tracey Young, daughter in law, Dorothy Mills: granchildren: Samantha Young & husband Michael McCutcheon, Justin Young, Jessica (Hooper) Fowler and husband, Brian Fowler, Buck Hooper & wife Rebecca, Mandie (Hooper) Fredde: great grandchildren: Haeden Hooper & wife Brooke, Bradley McCormick, Colton Hughart & wife Monica, Jax McCutcheon, Harold Tate Hooper, Kelsey Williams, Keira Core, Kaden Core, great-great grandchildren: Maverick Hooper and Brenton McCormick.
Harold was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Joyce Hooper (Black); his parents; his son, John Hooper; his brother, Lloyd Harman Hooper; his sister, Barbara Gail Rogers; and his nephew, Michael Shahan.
A proud and highly decorated veteran, Harold served his country with honor in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His commitment to military service extended into his community when he became one of the first curators of the USS Batfish in Muskogee, preserving the legacy of fellow servicemen for future generations.
Harold had a deep love for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and a passionate fisherman. Later in life, he turned that passion into a business, operating a local bait shop, known as Hooper's Bait and Tackle. Harold also had a love for dirt track racing and fast cars. He owned several race cars over the years, though he never drove or raced them himself.
Viewing will be held from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home, with the family receiving guests from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home of Muskogee, with Gordon Carlin officiating. Harold will be laid to rest at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Muskogee. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Harold, please visit our Tree Store.
