Hurst - Harry Phillip Hurst, age 73, passed away suddenly June 10, 2022, at his home in Hilliard, Florida. He was born August 6, 1948, to Andrew Calvin, Sr. and Mary Maxine (Leggett) Hurst in Jacksonville, Florida. Harry lived most of his life in Duval and Nassau Counties and graduated from Paxon Sr. High School in 1966. He was an over the road trucker for some years, served as a deputy over ten years for the Nassau County Sheriffs Department and later was a bulk mail carrier. Harry officially retired in 2011 and has been living a quiet life.
To know Harry was to love him. He had a great personality and was big as life itself. Harry had a huge heart and always made you feel loved. He was an avid motorcyclist who toured the United States and Canada. Harry loved the Blue Ridge Mountains, especially the Great Smoky Mountains, which will become his final resting place in the late fall.
Harry was preceded in death by his son, Randall Phillip Hurst; grandson, Michael James Hurst, Jr.; and six brothers, Freddy Hurst, Charles Jackson Hurst, Andrew Calvin Hurst Jr., Gordon Arthur Hurst, Kenneth Edward Hurst, and Stanley Robert Hurst.
Harry is survived by his daughter and son in law, Tammy and Frank Moran of Waycross, Georgia; son, Michael James "Jaime" Hurst, and girlfriend Sherri Lewis of Hoboken, Georgia; sister, Joyce Elizabeth Smith (Henry) of Macclenny, Florida; two sisters in law, Selena Hurst of Cleveland, Georgia; and Donna Hurst of Hilliard, Florida; special friends, Randle Reeves (Marie) of Hilliard, Florida; and Linda Brooks, of Pensacola, Florida; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
A Celebration of Harry's Life will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Nassau Funeral Home with Pastor Mitchell Deems officiating. Family will receive friends from 11:00 – 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
