Harry Eugene Stephens, 91, resident of Greenwood and husband of Alice Rachel McAllister Stephens, passed away Monday, September 22, 2025, at his home.

Born February 14, 1934, in Seneca, he was a son of the late James Loving Stephens and Elsie Mae Powell Stephens. A graduate of Seneca High School, Mr. Stephens went on to complete his studies at Columbia Business College and later graduated from the LSU School of Banking. He also served in the National Guard for 20 years. Following his business degree, Mr. Stephens owned and operated the local bus station. In 1965, he and his family moved to Greenwood where he began a banking career that spanned more than 35 years. He also owned and operated the Econo Wash in Greenwood.

Mr. Stephens was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Greenwood and the Mauldin Sunday School Class since 1965. Deeply committed to his community, he served on the Burton Center Board for over 20 years and was a former member of the Greenwood Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, and Civitan Club. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Greenwood Country Club for 55 years. Harry would play golf with his foursome dubbed "The Legends," Dr. Travis Stephenson, James Ferqueron, and Jimmy McDonald.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 69 years, are their children, Mark (Barbara) Stephens of Charlotte, NC, Lisa (Chris) Shimakonis of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Gary (Wendy) Stephens of Greenville, SC; five grandchildren, Katherine (JP) Coton, Chase and Chad Shimakonis, and Alex and Ally Stephens; and one brother, Ralph Terry Stephens of Columbia.

He was predeceased by two brothers, James L. Stephens, Jr. and Jack Stephens, and a sister, Pat Locher.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 26, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Greenwood with Rev. John Uldrick officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service at their home.

A private family burial will be held at Edgewood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Greenwood, Meals on Wheels, or Traditions Hospice.
