Helen Elizabeth Bullen, 90, died Thursday, January 13, 2022 at her home.
She was born June 11, 1931, daughter of Roy and Margaret Swain Martin. Helen was a devoted wife and homemaker and lovingly raised four children. As a young girl, she played the saxophone in the St. Joseph's School marching Band. She was always very proud of the fact that she was invited to play (although she could not accept) with the Louisville Orchestra. She was a graduate of Ahrens Trade School. For many years, Helen worked in the marking room at the old Selman's Department Store, and later as a saleslady at Catherine's Dress Shop. She also worked as a clerk at Highland Cleaners. One of her accomplishments that she was particularly very proud of was co-founding Mary's Rosary on the Go with her husband Tom; A prayer group dedicated to those in Nursing Homes; It began with one home and no volunteers to 30 homes within Louisville and the surrounding communities and grew to include 50 volunteers.
In addition to her husband, Tom Bullen, Helen was preceded in death by her brother, Harry Martin.
She is survived by her children, Terri Lindsey, Kevin P. Bullen, Tom H. Bullen, III and Angela M. Bullen; her sister, Martha Lee Goeing; grandchildren, Thomas Bullen IV, Mary Jane Stewart, Haley Jackson, Mary Kate Lindsey, Stephanie Lindsey, and Jessica Cox; great grandchildren, Jackson, Maggie, Penny, Ernie, Lily, Toni, George, Paisley, Brentley and Owen.
Funeral mass is 10am Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 2040 Buechel Bank Road with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is 9:30am – 10am that morning at the church.
In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to Mass of the Air.
