HELEN MARIE MCGANNON, age 57 of Owatonna died peacefully at her home on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
Born on August 5, 1967 in Waseca, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Francis and Mary Ann (Kramer) McGannon. She grew up on her family’s farm, where she learned the value of hard work. Those early years shaped her strong work ethic and her deep appreciation for simple, honest living.
Helen graduated from Waldorf-Pemberton High School in 1986 and went on to graduate from Rasmussen Business College. Following her schooling, Helen began her long career with Federated Insurance in Owatonna where she continued to work until retiring after over 30 years.
Helen was a woman of deep and unwavering faith which guided her life. She had a profound love for animals and was a devoted caregiver to many cherished cats and dogs over the years. Helen believed that all creatures deserved kindness and respect, and she was a passionate protector of all animals in need. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and Helen also had a love for music. She especially loved singing and dancing.
She is survived by her siblings, Jim (Jennifer) McGannon of Forest Lake and Rita (Matt) Jones of Mankato and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her uncle, Vernon Kramer of Adrian and many cousins and extended relation. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Patrick in infancy; and sister, Cathleen.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025 at 3:00 PM at the State Street Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service in Waseca. Visitation will be held on Monday from 1:00 PM until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Waseca County.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to a local animal shelter of your choice.
