JULIA ANN FISCHER, age 98 of Waseca, died at Laurel’s Peak Rehabilitation Center in Mankato on the evening of Monday, June 2, 2025.
Julia was born in Waseca on December 3, 1926, to parents Joseph and Julia (Maher) Thiewes. She was a student at Sacred Heart Parochial School in Waseca and she graduated with the Scarlett class of 1945. She went to work at First National Bank in Waseca and then Ruttledge Insurance in Waseca for a couple of years until her marriage to Clayton William Fischer on April 30, 1949. After her wedding she became the deputy clerk of court in Waseca, then an office manager at Falk Chiropractic, a teacher’s assistant at Sacred Heart, and finally a paraprofessional at Sacred Heart. Throughout all her working years she was a partner on the family farm and an invaluable asset at Metro Sound and Lighting. In 2005 she and Clayton moved from the farm into town, but her involvement on the farm never wavered. Julia liked to play card games and was involved in a bridge club for many years. She was an avid reader, and she and Clayton enjoyed traveling, but more than anything she loved to spend time with her family. She was a lifelong member at Sacred Heart and enjoyed being a part of the Catholic Daughters.
Julia is survived by two sons, Larry (Paula) Fischer of Eagan, Tim (Marijo) Fischer of Waseca; a daughter-in-law, Jeanne Fischer of Northfield; six grandchildren, Steven (Sarah) Morrison, Angela (Matt) Egan, Matthew Morrison, John Fischer, Marie Fischer and her boyfriend Kyle Wedde, and Katie Fischer; and four great-grandchildren, Makenna, Kiley, Ross, and Amelia. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, William; and a sister and five brothers.
