Herbert Devere Holdridge (Herb), 98, most recently of Conroe, TX, passed away on May 19, 2025 while under hospice care at Harmony Memory Care. Herb was born in Vicksburg, MS on April 25, 1927 to Herbert Sr and Elizabeth Holdridge. He grew up in Houston/Texas City/Galveston area, graduating from Kirwin High School in Galveston.
He went into the US Navy Officer Training program during college and graduated from University of Texas/Austin with a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. His first job out of college was with Amoco Chemical at their Texas City refinery. Later, he worked in the Research and Development area of Amoco helping to develop new and better plastics for use in all types of products. During this time, he met his wife, Rita. They were married from 1951 until her passing in 2019. Together, they raised four children while living in Chicago, St Louis and finally back in the Houston area.
Herb loved music, played trumpet and was a drum major in both high school and in the UT Longhorn Marching Band. He was a golfer, loving to both play and to watch it on TV or in person. He retired from Amoco Chemicals. At this point, Herb and Rita traveled extensively - sight-seeing, taking cruises, and attending Elderhostels in numerous locations around the world. At times, it seemed they were never home. As they grew older, physical ailments curtailed their travels. Herb will be interred with his wife at Windwood Presbyterian Church.
