Herman W. Halter

Herman W. Halter, 87, of Temperance, Michigan, passed away, Wednesday, August 20, 2025. Herman was born on February 23, 1938, in Toledo, Ohio, and was the son of Johann Jakob and Barbara (Halbgewachs) Halter. He was a Bedford High School graduate and served his country in the US Air Force. Herman met his wife Mary "Carol" Stroud thru pen pal writing. After his discharge from the US Air Force they met, fell in love, and married on October 8, 1960. He was employed by GM Powertrain for 30 years, retiring in 1989. Herman was a life-long member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, and the U.A.W, Local 14. He was an avid golfer with the GM Retirees and was an amateur Radio Operator.
Herman is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Carol; children, Dawn (Kevin) Whitenburg and Troy (Susan) Halter; grandchildren, Nate, Nick, Macy (Ryan), Emily, and Karissa, and many nieces and nephews, who loved their Uncle Herman dearly. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Herbert, Louis, Werner, Richard, twins, Herbert, and Heinz Halter; sisters, Margaret "Dolly" Allman and Doris Clark.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am - 12:00 Noon, Saturday, August 30, 2025, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 1690 Sterns Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, Michigan, where funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Whiteford Union Cemetery.
